Frequently Asked Questions
Printing Methods
Most of our designs can be totally customized to fit your taste. Visit our Make it Yours page to learn more about how to create the invitation suite of your dreams.
Most of our letterpress designs can be printed in up to four colors (1-color is most budget friendly, 4-color is most expensive). For an additional cost we can usually add foil stamping and/or combine printing methods like digital and offset to achieve more colors if so desired. Get a quote started today or if you have an idea let us help you! Call or email and one of our designers will help you create the best invitation for your and your wedding!
As long as you have the rights to the image and it is print ready it should be no problem and can be added for no charge (each Wedding Collection Suite order comes with three hours of graphic design time). Talk to one of our designers about the best way to incorporate your image using letterpress, foil, digital, or offset printing. If you are ready to order today, you can email us a vector-based image or high-resolution bitmap image (TIFF) and we’ll get started!
Sure! For an extra charge we can print on the back of a card. With letterpress we suggest using 2-ply paper (220#) for two-sided pieces. When printing digital or offset 1-ply is fine. Keep in mind we custom-laminate papers and can mount two printed sheets together.
Yes! Printing with no ink is a letterpress technique call blind-debossing. The cost is the same price as printing 1-color letterpress. We can either use no ink at all and achieve your design with just a deep impression, or use a slightly tinted ink to accentuate the design subtly.
Probably. Give us a call or send us an email to discuss the details, we have access to lots of paper and can usually purchase the one you want or something similar.
The best way to incorporate colored paper into your invitation is usually with a colored envelope or pocket fold to match your invitation, at a small additional cost. See our Custom Options page for samples of both. If you don’t see what you have in mind, give us a call or email and in most cases we should be able to find the envelope you are dreaming of.
It is usually better to err on the side of darker colors when choosing ink for invitation text. We suggest you order a sample kit to see how the invitation colors look when they are printed. When you decide to place your order, if you decide to customize the colors we will send you a color swatch book so that you can see how our standard ink colors look on paper. It is often slightly different in person from what you see on the computer screen depending on your monitor and settings.
The best way to know what your colors will look like ahead of time is to order a sample kit to see how the invitations look in person. When you order your invitation we will send you a swatch book with our standard colors. Choosing from these rather than the relying on the computer monitor will be a far more accurate way to create your dream invitation.
Ordering Questions
We are unable to print samples of invitations with customized options. It would be way too expensive and time consuming. The best way to envision your invitation is to order a sample kit, specifying in your order which invitations. We will send you the sample invitation as pictured on the website. This sample will include the invitation only, however you can look on our website to see the additional pieces included in the suite, as well as order many other custom additions to match (maps, thank you notes, custom stationery for the bridal party). Looking at these together will be a far more accurate way to envision your final invitation than just looking at the screen.
We will email you a PDF or a digital proof with your customized invitation (you receive up to three hours of graphic design time with your order of an invitation suite from our collection). Once you approve the final PDF and send in complete payment your order will go on the press and be shipped within two weeks. This proof along with the invitation samples and ink chips will help you to truly visualize what your invitation will look like during the ordering process.
We work with talented calligraphers who will hand address your invitations and place cards for an extra charge, or visit our Make it Yours page to find a font that mimics hand calligraphy for a more budget friendly option.
We can print a wide range of custom envelope liners that enhance your invitation for almost any envelope for an extra charge. From watercolor to gold foil we can do it all. Visit our customization options for samples and ideas to get started or request a quote today.
We can create place cards to match your invitation suite. These can have a letterpress or foil motif and then a calligrapher can hand write the guest names or we can print the names on an inkjet printer. Let us know if you are interested in place cards when you place your order and we can work it into the overall price quote for your wedding suite.
Yes, look at our envelope selection on customization options page and if you don’t see what you are looking for, we can probably find it for you.
We will need a $150 nonrefundable deposit in order to start working on your order of an invitation from our Collection. This can be placed online here, or over the phone. If you are customizing an order (adding colors, foil, etc. not included in the original design from our Collection) and need to generate a price quote before you order, you can do that here. Once you have decided to order you can make your deposit over the phone.
Once you approve your final pdf proof in writing (usually by email), we will need the full payment before we start to print. We accept checks, cards, and credit cards.
To order a totally custom invitation, please fill out this form so that we can get to know you and your wedding better. This can be emailed back to us and we can begin to work on your invitations once we have worked out a quote and received a fifty percent deposit. (Because custom design invitation suites take an initial investment of time we require a higher deposit than for the designs from our Collection).
From the order to the shipping date, you should allow at least five weeks. The earlier your order your invitations the better, especially if you plan to customize the design. You should allow at minimum three weeks to finalize your copy and design, in addition to two weeks to print. Once the final design is approved and we have received full payment it will take two weeks for your order to be ready to ship. If we are able to rush an order (usually we can), there is a 50% additional charge for a one-week (5 business days) rush.
Most of our invitation packages come with save-date-designs that can be added to your total order. If not, we can design a custom save-the-date to complement your invitation order or event. Save-the-dates are usually sent out 6-8 months before a destination wedding, or 4-6 months before the wedding so be sure to place your order allowing 5 weeks to design and print before your mailing date.
We can print any extras for your wedding day and after. From wedding party gifts (custom stationery), to thank you notes that reflect the style of the wedding. Everything can be designed to complement the wedding invitation suite that you ordered. You can include these in your original quote, or order them closer to the wedding day, however be sure to allow time for design and printing in order to avoid rush charges.
It is always a good idea to order extra when you place your original order. It is far, far more expensive to put a job back on press than it is to print fifty extra invitations with the original order. Extra invitations are always nice to have on hand, in case someone is invited last minute, an invitation gets lost in the mail, or if you plan to keep a few in your personal archives for sentimental reasons.
Also, keep in mind that you will need extra envelopes whether a professional calligrapher is addressing them or if you are doing it by hand at home. We include an extra 10% of any envelopes that will be addressed with your invitation order and it is also possible to order extra if you want to err on the side of caution.
In general, the sooner your invitations are ordered the better. Invitations are usually mailed about eight weeks before the wedding, so you’ll want to place your order at minimum 13 weeks before your wedding to avoid rush charges (and hopefully sooner). If you are running late we are usually able to rush design and print times for a 50% additional charge.
